You Are What You Eat

Throughout our lives we've always heard the phrase "you are what you
eat!" Many times we don't even realize how many significant meanings
that one phrase has.In this blog we're going to talk about 3 things:
~YOUR FRIENDS, YOUR MIND AND YOUR MOUTH~
1. Friends

Whether you like it or not, whether you intend to or not, you become who you surround yourself with. As followers of Christ we've been called to be set apart. The kind of company you choose to surround yourself with is very important, because ultimately it can slowly affect you in a positive or negative way. The key factor here is that you choose who that company is going to be.1 Corinthians 15:33 "Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good character.”By choosing to surround yourself with negative company, even the strongest warriors of the Lord can fall. When most of your time is spent with people who only associate with this world and the things in it, your vision slowly starts to shift from Jesus and onto this world. Just like I said in my last blog, the minute your eyes avert somewhere else, you have created the perfect opportunity for the devil to feed you lies until you believe that something you never thought you would ever do is suddenly ok. Be very careful who you choose to spend most of your time with. If the people you're with aren't trying to live a life like Christ did or aren't doing everything they do for the Glory of God, then chances are you aren't either.

Proverbs 27:17 "As iron sharpens iron, So one man sharpens another."

When two people whose eyes are set on Christ come together, the bible tells us that they sharpen each other like iron. They rise up and run the race of life that God has set before them and conquer all things of this world.

Be careful when choosing your friends and who you choose to spend your time with. Are you spending time with people who turn your attention to God, or are you spending your time with people who turn your attention away from God?

2. Your Mind If you're not careful, your mind is the quickest way to lead your life into a pit of destruction. You are what you eat. You are whatever it is that you feed your mind with.

Colossians 3:2-5  "Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry."

Colossians tells us to "put to death" whatever is earthly in us. When I refer to the mind, I picture it as a train. One train is leading to life and another is leading to death and they're both going in opposite directions. It is our job to keep our eyes fixed on Christ at all times, and even though many times it's easy to get off track, we have to choose to find our way back.

The train that leads to life consists of all the things listed in Philippians 4:8: Philippians 4:8 "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." The train that leads to death is anything that doesn't fall into the category of that verse.

It is our job to keep our minds right. When you notice the devil trying to feed lies and thoughts that are not of God into your head, get rid of them! Literally picture yourself stepping off the train leading to death, watch it ride away and step onto the train that leads to life and make your way to the light. The longer those thoughts of death remain in your head, the farther away from God you get in every aspect of your life. Don't let the devil control your thoughts and choose to get onto the right train.

Matthew 6:21 "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

What do you treasure? If most of your thoughts are consumed with this world, then your heart will be also. If you want to love God, if you want to live the full and extraordinary life that He has planned for each and everyone of us then you have to treasure the King. Are you treasuring the King or this world?

3. Your Mouth Most people don't fully understand the power of their words. Proverbs 18:21

"Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits."

I could go on all day about this but instead i'm just going to leave you with this: You are what you eat. What you pour out of your mouth is a direct representation of who you are or who you're going to be.

Your mouth has the power of life and death in your life and in others as well. If you speak hate or destruction over yourself or someone else, you have created a pathway for the devil to bring hate and destruction into your life or that person's life.

For example: If you speak injury over yourself, don't be surprised when you're injured. If you speak failure over yourself, don't be surprised when you fail. If you speak sickness over yourself, don't be surprised when you're sick. If you speak hate over someones life, don't be surprised when you truly and deeply hate them.

~Are you getting the pattern here?~

Matthew 15:18

"But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person."

Whatever a person speaks is an example of what their heart looks like. If you're walking around speaking death over yourself and those around you, what do you think your heart is filled with?

It's time to speak life! It's time to speak life into your life and the people around you. If you speak of death and destruction in your life, that is exactly what is going to accompany it. Watch your words and instead choose to speak words filled with truth and life and watch how much your life transforms!

I challenge you to try something! Take one day and only speak things that are positive and Godly and loving and see what kind of day you have compared to the rest! Psalm 19:14

"Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer."

~Your friends, your mind and your mouth all have a direct correlation to the kind of person you are and the life you live.~
What kind of life are you going to live? What kind of food are you going to consume today? It's up to you! Are you going to consume the things of this world or are you going to consume the things of the Lord?
